Education for autistic children can be challenging due to the way it is structured, by adapting the structure of education to more experiential ways of learning, tailors’ education for autistic children by creating a small world environment. A small world environment is important as “much of human learning occurs by watching and imitating” and focusing on that style of learning can “improve adaptive functioning”3 of autistic children as mentioned in Corbett’s case study. Embracing this within my design will support the children in an immersive world of learning. My project aims to capture the idea of a city within a city, taking the concepts of places and creating symbols for the children to associate within their lives. Creating a safe environment for the children to explore and play allows an understanding of how these spaces work in a social environment.
